Choose where a rear-camera recording is reconstructed
Front TrueDepth scans are reconstructed directly on the supported iPhone or iPad. They do not require FiRecon, a cloud reconstruction task or an upload.
For rear-camera recordings, Fiscan offers a cloud destination and a local Mac destination. Cloud reconstruction lets you submit a capture without operating your own reconstruction Mac. Local reconstruction uses FiRecon on the Mac you select on your local network. The app shows the access requirements and available destinations before submission.
| Consideration | Local Mac with FiRecon | Fiscan cloud |
|---|---|---|
| Equipment | A compatible Mac running FiRecon | No local reconstruction Mac required |
| Scan transfer | Mobile device to your selected Mac on the local network | Upload through the internet |
| Getting started | Start FiRecon on your Mac | Choose cloud reconstruction in Fiscan |
| What affects completion time | Mac resources, input quality and local network | Upload speed, queue, processing and result download |
| Data handling | Manage the files and results on your devices | Cloud content follows the selected retention period |
How do I set up local reconstruction?
- Obtain the current FiRecon package from the Fiscan website and check its Mac requirements.
- Start FiRecon and check that its reconstruction service is ready.
- Connect the phone and Mac to the same local network. Allow local-network access for Fiscan; guest-network isolation can prevent discovery.
- Choose the available local reconstruction destination in Fiscan and keep FiRecon running during the task.
Local reconstruction keeps this scan transfer on the local network. It does not mean every app function works offline: sign-in, subscription verification and other cloud functions may still require internet access.
How do I manage scan data?
For rear-camera recordings, choose the reconstruction destination before submission. Local reconstruction transfers the capture to the Mac you select; cloud reconstruction uploads it for processing. Front TrueDepth capture and reconstruction stay on the mobile device; later export, sharing or uploads are separate actions. Check your data-retention settings and review the Privacy Policy for processing locations, storage, retention and deletion details before choosing a workflow.
You can delete scans earlier using the app. Exported files and local results remain under the control of their destination. For the full scope, timing and exceptions, read the current English Privacy Policy; this guide is only a workflow summary.
Will local reconstruction always be faster?
No fixed completion time is promised. A local workflow avoids a cloud upload but depends on your Mac and network. A cloud workflow depends on available upstream bandwidth, queue state, processing and downloading the result. Compare the complete capture-to-export workflow using representative scans, not just the processing timer.
