Start with the data your workflow needs

A phone-based tool such as Fiscan is an option when you want to capture facial context, align existing intraoral models and prepare CAD data on compatible mobile equipment. Fiscan is currently available for compatible iPhone and iPad devices, with Android support coming soon. A dedicated facial scanner offers another workflow with its own supported software and equipment requirements. Evaluate both options against your intended use; neither a device price nor a photorealistic screenshot demonstrates accuracy.

Fiscan supplies facial capture and data preparation software, with optional FiRecon reconstruction on Mac. It is not an intraoral scanner and does not replace a dental CAD system. For a task that requires a validated measurement or regulated medical device, verify the applicable evidence and intended-use documentation separately.

What should you compare before choosing?

Questions for a practical evaluation
AreaWhat to verify
CaptureDevice compatibility, capture guidance, lighting and subject stability
GeometryScale, repeated-capture consistency and comparison with suitable reference data
Mouth regionVisible tooth detail, lip coverage and common surfaces for intraoral alignment
InteroperabilityYour actual STL/PLY inputs and the exported files in your CAD installation
OperationsCapture-to-export time, recapture rate, network needs and support
DataProcessing locations, retention, deletion and permissions
CostDevices, subscription, workstation and any separately licensed CAD modules

A useful trial uses your own workflow

  1. Learn the controls using Fiscan's built-in example data before evaluating a new capture.
  2. With permission, capture representative subjects under repeatable lighting and compare repeated captures against your chosen reference.
  3. Import the same intraoral data you normally use. Review alignment from several views and record any need to recapture.
  4. Open the exported project in your intended CAD environment. Check scale and relative positions, and record the total time and manual steps.
  5. Compare the results with the requirements of your specific workflow, including situations where the input is incomplete or difficult.

An example model helps evaluate the interface and file workflow; it is not evidence of the accuracy your own capture will achieve. This guide is published by the Fiscan product team, not an independent hardware review.

What does Fiscan cost?

Fiscan is free to download and offers in-app subscriptions. The app shows which features require a subscription. Use the price and renewal terms shown in the app for your account and selected plan; prices and currencies vary by storefront. A Mac for local reconstruction and any third-party CAD licenses are separate considerations.
